Merle Vorwald is an independent production designer and artist-researcher based in Berlin and Brussels. The disciplines are heavily influenced by other, even though their media often widely differ. Her designs are reflecting the tension and humor of shifting between work realities.
Both practices examine micro intimate, often historical fringe phenomena in everyday materials.
Their shiny, glossy, bright, sinister, imperfect surfaces function as translation medium into cinematic or digital aesthetics. Maxed out, never minimal.

As production designer she articulates an aesthetic position between streaming and TV shows, art house movies and video art.
Her research practice explores writing techniques, spatial installations and online platforms. With them, she explores the inherent political of autobiographical matters and investigates the potentials of fragility in collective work structures.
Her work is always collaborative and often connected to Belgium.
